A special edition of Dateline, NBC News’ Richard Engel tells the harrowing stories of the climbers that survived the deadly Nepal earthquake in April 2015.

25 days before the Earthquake and subsequent avalanche, Michael Churton sets out from Kathmandu with the Madison Mountaineering team to film a father and daughter attempt the summit of Everest together. While filming, Churton narrowly survives the earthquake and avalanche at Everest Base Camp. Once back in Kathmandu, he links up with his former employer, NBC News. A special edition of Dateline is made from Richard Engel’s interviews with survivors’ Haley and Randall Ercanbrack, Garrett Madison and Michael Churton along with his footage of the expedition.
